YES, fibre is really important in your diet, especially as you grow older. However, I would read the label carefully. Fibre is good but how much fat, how much sugar, how much salt? These are the things I would look for. When it comes to fibre, my choices are oatmeal in the morning, grains such as quinoa or brown rice or bulgur wheat, and lots of lentils, dried beans and peas.

Just my opinion. Oh...and a big welcome to our f

And hello from me, PandoraSpock! Some great advice above - I would just like to add that you've taken the biggest step - decided to DO something about it! I can confirm that becoming more active is just as important as eating healthier meals - I found it easier to get started on that one in little instalments (say, 15 minutes exercise every morning) rather than trying to start with marathon sessions that just would have had to end in tears - like GoingForIt, I find the Wii Fit a great help, as it makes e

You can use the Smart Ones meals to give yourself an idea of how big a meal should be, what proportions of each food is included - protein vs starches vs veggies (add

YAY! Since I last wrote I lost 3 lbs - I have 12 more lbs to go to meet my goal. My clothes are now snug on me instead of tight. ;)  It has been a busy week as I've been preparing for my oldest baby to go to Kindergarten. Well, I suppose he is not a baby any longer though. Yep, I have been all about the tears all week. Friday is his first official day, he is doing a staggered start where he will have his first day with only four kids. This way, the teacher gets to spend a lot of personal attention with them getting them familiar with the class, their schedule, etc. I am nervous but excited for him. The good news is that this gives me the opportunity to spend more one on one time with my two year old. Something I am very much looking forward to.

It is back to the running program for me - I put it off this week as there was so much to do to get ready for school. Excuses no more - I set an official start day for Saturday. Will post more on the next update. I've also completely cut out sodas of my diet again.. I've been eating out more often lately and when I go out I had always given myself permission to have a soda since I am not 'allowed' to have them at home. I am back to drinking water and I think that has made all the difference in my initial weight loss. That, and some of it is bloating that is stabalizing after my surgery last week.

Well, that is it for me for now.. I've loved reading all of your blogs, you guys keep me motivated. Loving the recipes too! Keep it up - let's stay inspired!

Trader Joes carries several items that are very satisfying.  My favorites are original Puffins(very filling for 1pt) and Cat cookies in either the chocolate or ginger flavors.  I am a big fan of WW mocha bars.  I also make a fake egg cream with skim milk and diet root beer(stir fast as you pour the soda into the milk).  It makes a huge foamy drink that is filling and delicious.  Enjoy

      Hi Everybody!

It's been one year now, and I'm down 109 pounds. I'm here with 2 of my brothers and 1 of my nephews, at another nephew's wedding.  I can actually walk and breathe at the same time. The wedding was at a restaurant in Laguna Beach. I actually managed to climbe all of those stairs (TWICE) and live to tell the tail. I actually did not get out of breath at all. Even danced some during the evening. I am going in for back surgery on the 17th of August, and hopefully after the recovery period, will be able to start some type of exercise program. For so long, the word DIET was a "four letter word" to me. Until finally, one day, I just got tired of feeling like garbage, and decided that enough was enough.  I just want to send out words of encouragement to all of us who struggle with our weight. And if you have a bad food day, or even a bad food week, DO NOT beat yourself up about it. Just pick up where you left off. It IS okay. We are only human, after all.  We can do this, and we can do this together. You are all just so AWESOME, don't ever forget that!

Wishing you ALL the BEST!  Hugs!!!!

I had a turning point when none of my clothes fit AT ALL. I really had a wake up call and decided to try to change my eating habits and get healthy. Since then I have been able to get back into all of my clothes and I even went down a few sizes so now they are too big haha. I continue to strive each day to stay away from my enemies ( bad foods) or have them in moderation sometimes only.

This is a very interesting discussion topic. I have been on so many diets I can't remember them all. Two however come to mind as the biggest failures of all. In one plan I actually had to go in everyday, get weighed and the staff person would hand me my daily vitamans and take my vitals. I was required to eat tuna fish for lunch every day. I did lose weight on that plan but I also lost a lot of hair and that program went out of business.

Right before coming back to WW I was in a medically managed

I have been eating Smart Ones for a long time but for some reason this morning as I was waiting for my Smart One's english muffin sandwich to cook in the microwave, I decided to read the list of ingredients and I was absolutyely appalled to see "high fructose corn syrup" listed as an ingredient!  Are you kidding me?  I could not even eat my sandwich after that and threw it in the trash.  There is absolutely NO reason at all for high fructose corn syrup to be an ingredient in any foods, but

Hi and welcome. I am also 5'3 and I weigh about 165. I'm a couple of decades older than you and weight really does creep up or I'd be telling you not to worry about that little bit of extra.

I do believe that rather than going on a restricted diet, it's healthier to eat properly - with "bad" foods out of your life (almost always!) and more activity into your life. That way, no matter which way the scale tips you can feel you are doing what you can to live as healthy person and then everyone benef

I was watching Dr. Phil today (don't ask me why, but I took a break from work and turned it on). It was a bit disturbing - about moms who drink and then drive with their kids in the car. I didn't actually end up watching the whole thing, but it got me thinking about talk shows and lessons learned (or not!) from them.

I'm a huge Oprah fan, and have always loved watching her show. I especially like how open and honest she's been with her weight struggle over the years (yo-yo dieting, etc). Dr. Phil

Same here, nothing worse than a soggy piece of cabbage, yuk! We've bought a "steaming insert" for our pots lately, so kept broccoli, carrots, cabbage, spinach and just about anything else we fancy nice and crunchy. Now summer's here, I'm starting to switch over to a raw veggie diet completely - tastes nicer, and I don't fancy standing in front of a hot stove :-)
