Anything written by James Patterson is good.  His books are good from the first page and the chapters are short.

      Hey everyone,

Just finished catching up on the SO happenings!  You all are doing amazing and I am loving your updates.  I just finished one of the last of my projects/papers for this term.  So, I thought I would get my head out of the books for a bit and say HELLO.  I have 2 more weeks and then this term is history.  I have a quiz,  a test and one more paper to finish.  Then, I get my break and I am off until July 7.  My last class is June 17....so glad about that.

So, yes, with school, work, working out, meal planning and family activities, I've been pretty busy these last weeks.  But, I had to take a break from it all and see what you guys were up to.  You all inspire me and give me that push to keep going.  So, thanks!!

Well, I am off to dreamland now.  I am planning to go out in the morning for a 7 mile power walk....so, we'll see how it goes.  As always, I'll keep you posted.

      Have a great weekend!

You are brave as I am unable to read and walk on the treadmill. I have had to watch tv or get an audiobook. I have always enjoyed the Sue Grafton mysteries and for some laughter Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books. Sophie Kinsella shopaholic series is a good one too. She has other books as well.

Another idea would be to read a cookbook and get some ideas for menus for the week.

Love this topic, I have been looking for a book to read. More ideas ladies! Got any chick lit favs?

I haven't been reading many books lately, well, just the ones for school.  :)  But, I am a subscriber to the Weight Watchers magazine.  I love reading the success stories and other tips.  I get motivated everytime I read them.

I love CHICK LIT! I like to read easygoing, fun books with perhaps a theme that holds my interest - such as travel. I love books about time travel - always have. So my current fave is The Time Traveller's Wife, while it used to be Diana Gabaldon's delicious Highlander books. Yeah, give me a  romance with some intrigue and fantasy thrown in!

I did get interested in audio books recently too and would like to get more. I listened to 'The Sister' by Poppy Adams - a chilling and

I have ZERO -  NONE...  I start off thinking  Sunday night as I prepare food for a few days..  OK  this is it. I am and can stick to this.  It's good food, I love fruit and veg.,   WW bread, Smart ones  etc......  So what can  be so hard!!!!     WILL POWER...........    I have none.   If some one brings in cookies, chocolate, doesn't matter if I'm hungary or not, I'll eat..........   I get my glass on water in the  morning and at lunch, hmmmmmmm  it's still almost full.  I read books about gaining will power, about a "life change" etc....  all sounds good at the time I'm reading it, but it just never happens..    so if ANYONE  can help me get some WILL POWER and keep it, I will be the happiest person alive  .  ( well almost)...

      thank you !!!

      Hello!

After reading many of your blogs it hit me how similar we are in our weight struggles. I also joined WW in the early 70s only to gain it all back and more after having 2 children in 76 and 77.  Thirty-three years later I am obese, pre-diabetic and obviously cannot blame it on "baby weight."

I have videos, books, foods and other aids I have purchased to help in my quest to lose, but have discovered merely purchasing these items isn't going to work unless I put hard work into it as well. There is no magic solution and at 276.8 lbs in a 5' 5" frame I need to work at getting out of plus sizes and back into life! There's a wedding my family is attending 500 miles away in early June and wanting to look presentable in a dress is my goal. I have known about this since early fall 2009 but I always wait until the last minute to act and I need to get real and at least do the best I can in the next 11 weeks.

So far I have lost 3.8 lbs in the past 2 weeks and have tried a couple of the videos I purchased months ago.  I welcome your advice, encouragement and anything else you feel I need to hear. Your successes have encouraged and inspired me and I will be blogging at least once a week to update you on my successes.  I know how to fail so now it is time to show myself and the world I also know how to finish something I start!

You guys are so motivating! OK, I have one very silly sounding goal.. but when I lost all the weight, I lost everything in my behind! I have none to speak of anymore.. so my goal is to workout my glutes! :)

I also plan to lose the 5 lbs I gained over the holiday.

I need to start setting aside some time for myself each week, to just decompress and maybe even go to a movie with friends, so I plan to do that.

Read more books, and drink more water!

  • Been Difficult For Me ...How ' Been Difficult For Me ...How 'bout You

    • From: Doingthis4Chris

      December 14, 2009

Well, it's been a difficult couple of months.  Food is EVERYWHERE!  We've been to parties, weddings, shows, showers, dinners and more ...and it's not over yet ...the food is abundant and good (but not great for losing or maintaining)!  I keep losing and gaining the same 2-3 pounds over and over again.  It could be worse ...I could quit WW (I WON'T!) and gain it all back (and then some), but that isn't even an option.  I will just keep trying and eventually, I'll "Get a grip!" as one of my past WW leaders use to say.

Last week, we got new books at Weight Watchers, so I decided that this is the week to "just do it" ...and keep doing it.  I feel so much better eating healthier.  I have been doing some exercise 3-4 times a week, which is much more than I was doing.  I have a friend that say's she'll journal (which I'm good at & she's not) if I'll do more exercise.  I know that encouraging and supporting each other to do these things will help us both to succeed.

I don't spend many week-ends at home, so I get excited when I get to hang around the house  ...I can dine on Smart Ones, make healthy choices out of my own cupboards and fridge & stick with the program.  But, I must admit, that I enjoy going and doing.  I just have to focus on making smarter choices, and practice the 'three bite rule'.  One of my fellow Weight Watcher's follows that 'rule' ...which is ...If there's a yummy dessert that you just can't resist, eat only 3 bites.  Not big 'ol hurkin' bites ...normal sized ones.  She's lost over 100 pounds doing this.  She goes on several cruises a year because she works for a cruise line.  If she can do it, so can I ...SO CAN WE!

OK ...I wish myself self-control and success at the scales.  And I wish the same for you.

I started this journey 11/05 It took me awhile to lose I am a slow loser but that is ok because they say the slower it comes off the easier it is to keep it off. I was at 264 ++ I could not even tie my own shoe. I told my husband I wanted to get the surgery and he said no way. I was on a lot of medication for all types of things I have arthritis and could barley walk. I told him fine I am trying on my own one more time and this time it worked. I have been taken off 7 medications now my arthritis is under control and I am so much heathier. The main things I have learned is to take one day at a time. We are only human and unfortunately we will be doing this our whole life. So we are going to have ups and downs. If you have a bad meal that's fine do not say to yourself ok I blew lunch I might as well not exercise today or I will eat whatever the rest of the day. It is only one meal. Also the same goes if you have a bad day then next day pick yourself up and dust yourself off and continue. I weighed almost 300 pounds and I always used to think about how much weight I had to lose and I would get discouraged so I started only thinking about 10 pounds at a time and then it started working for me. Hear are some of the things that work for me. I bring my lunch and morning and after noon snacks to work with me. I pack it up in the morning and bring it with me so there is no excuse that I do not have the right things with me. I also cook up a bunch of recipes from the site and from low calorie books and I freeze them into serving size portions so If I am running late and can not cook I have no excuse I just take something out of the freezer and I just have to heat it up. Make sure you write everything down you are eating and make sure you are doing some exercise I started out 30 min 3 days a week now I do at least 60min to 90 mins 6 days a week and most days I do more then that. After awhile things will start to get easier. I also just recently started a new gym I used to go to a gym, with a circuit training and only two cardio machines. Now the gym I go to is a full size one that has 4 different cardio machines triple the amount of machines and they have classes and it is great. And because of the change I am getting more tone and losing more inches and I am now in a size 6 and 122 pounds.

  • Weight Watchers and Prednisone Weight Watchers and Prednisone!

    • From: Spez13
    • Description:

I have been told all my life that my weight was not my fault because I have taken (and still take) prednisone for my asthma. Most diet books you read have a chapter dedicated to cortisol levels and usually explain that if you take prednisone, you will not lose weight. I joined Weight Watchers with that same mentality. I thought I would give it a try, but who knows if it would even work. When I was signing up and filling out the paperwork I mentioned the prednisone, and I remember being told. "You will lose weight, but maybe a little slower". Well I have to tell you I have had my ups and downs with my weight, I know everybody does. I went up when I was on more prednisone, because of a bad cold or the flu. But I learned that just because my prednisone went up it did not mean I needed to feed it. I often sat and ate extra vegetables, or entire bags of popcorn, but either way I ate healthier when on the higher doses of meds. And amazingly enough I lost the weight when the prednisone doses went down. I am currently 7.2 pounds from my goal. Making it to my goal will be the first time in 15 years that I have weighed inside my ideal BMI. Once at my goal, my total weight loss will be 60.8 pounds!!

Getting to this goal has had it's ups and downs as every diet has. But going to the meetings, and sharing new food finds with other members, and passing down clothes to new members made my week. It was alot easier to follow the rules for 1 week than thinking about doing this for the rest of my life. But after many many weeks of doing this, now it is second nature for me.

When I started with Weight Watchers I refused to eat out, then I remember my leader saying that if you refuse to eat out, and then you do once. You will freak out and stop! So I do eat out! I enjoy it, when I can I go on the website and determine what is the best choice for the points. If I cannot find what the food points are, then I use other tools to make a good guess. You cannot stop living or you will stop trying. I no longer think of being on a "Diet" I am now on a "Live-it".
