    • Description:

Those of you who are following me know I've been in a lot of pain. I finally found out (not surprisingly but oh so not happy) that I have arthritis. Does anyone else have it?

I really don't like reminders I am growing older. I always think I should be exempt somehow. LOL. However, I have a doctor who always told me 'this is your new reality' and that stuck with me really well.

So...in my New Reality, what do I need to think about? The site I read said jogging is not a good exercise for me

Love your ideas Doingthis4Chris! Water aerobics is a great workout! I have no experience with arthritis GoingForIt, but I wanted to post my support - and comend you on your attitude to find alternative forms of exercise. Sometimes we don't want to face our new reality, mine is the ability or non-ability to read without glasses!

Must give those CDs a try that you mention, I'm always grateful for something not too "painful" and which still gets rid of the calories :-) Water aerobics is a really lovely way of doing this, I can only agree, you should try it! :-) Some other activities I heard are beneficial due to their gentle stretching and loosening effect are yoga, tai-chi and pilates - here's a heartfelt "get better soon", and let us know how it goes and what you find most effective.

Arthritis can be very painful sometimes I think I have it in my neck. I have not been diagnosed yet though. Anyway I would think walking would help the doctors always suggest exercise. I think the Wii would be helpful also in moderation. I know you said you dont swim but how about water aerobics? I heard that it is wonderful for arthritis. I took a class a few years ago and I really liked it :)

I have had the same problem slacking off lately with the regular exercise. I recently joined my neighborhood walking group. We walk 3-4 times per week and it helps to have someone to motivate you. Do you have any neighbors that would commit to walking 2-3 time per week?

Good one M Easy - I personally find it takes me an extraordinary amount of time to develop a "routine", so I don't even have to think about "dragging" myself out of my seat to do something - for instance, I've been doing my Fitness Coach regime on the Wii for almost 9 months now, and only now am I starting to actually look forward to it - must have something to do with the fact I discovered you can switch off the "inspiring" (not!) background music, and put on my own favourite songs instead :-) Speaking

They don't sell this product where I live but I'm very skeptical.

YES, fibre is really important in your diet, especially as you grow older. However, I would read the label carefully. Fibre is good but how much fat, how much sugar, how much salt? These are the things I would look for. When it comes to fibre, my choices are oatmeal in the morning, grains such as quinoa or brown rice or bulgur wheat, and lots of lentils, dried beans and peas.

Just my opinion. Oh...and a big welcome to our f
