Weight Watchers and Prednisone!

I have been told all my life that my weight was not my fault because I have taken (and still take) prednisone for my asthma. Most diet books you read have a chapter dedicated to cortisol levels and usually explain that if you take prednisone, you will not lose weight. I joined Weight Watchers with that same mentality. I thought I would give it a try, but who knows if it would even work. When I was signing up and filling out the paperwork I mentioned the prednisone, and I remember being told. "You will lose weight, but maybe a little slower". Well I have to tell you I have had my ups and downs with my weight, I know everybody does. I went up when I was on more prednisone, because of a bad cold or the flu. But I learned that just because my prednisone went up it did not mean I needed to feed it. I often sat and ate extra vegetables, or entire bags of popcorn, but either way I ate healthier when on the higher doses of meds. And amazingly enough I lost the weight when the prednisone doses went down. I am currently 7.2 pounds from my goal. Making it to my goal will be the first time in 15 years that I have weighed inside my ideal BMI. Once at my goal, my total weight loss will be 60.8 pounds!!

Getting to this goal has had it's ups and downs as every diet has. But going to the meetings, and sharing new food finds with other members, and passing down clothes to new members made my week. It was alot easier to follow the rules for 1 week than thinking about doing this for the rest of my life. But after many many weeks of doing this, now it is second nature for me.

When I started with Weight Watchers I refused to eat out, then I remember my leader saying that if you refuse to eat out, and then you do once. You will freak out and stop! So I do eat out! I enjoy it, when I can I go on the website and determine what is the best choice for the points. If I cannot find what the food points are, then I use other tools to make a good guess. You cannot stop living or you will stop trying. I no longer think of being on a "Diet" I am now on a "Live-it".
