One Year Down

It's all about changing attitudes. It doesn't happen overnight. It was almost one year ago that I decided I needed to change. I was at my highest weight, 230 pounds and in a size 18. I had been working jobs I wasn't too happy about, and I was really unhappy about the way I looked. It took a picture for me to realize that. I applied and interviewed for a job and I told my family that if I got that job, I was going to start going to Weight Watchers. It was a job I really wanted so it was time for me to start being happy about every aspect in my life.

Well needless to say I got the job, and a couple weeks later, my mom and myself walked into our first Weight Watchers meeting. Were we nervous? Yes...but we were there together and we were going to make this succeed. As we started following the plan everything started to fall into place. The weight started to come off and we were doing it ourselves! No major diets, no weight loss surgery, this was the healthy way to make this work. You could eat anything, as long as you counted the points. This was hard for me in the beginning. I LOVE sweets! I loved fast food. It was about changing your attitude towards food. For me it meant saying no to those brownies or cookies at the office, eating more vegetables, and not running out to get fast food when I didn't know what else to get. I went cold turkey on the fast food. I haven't had it in a year. I tasted a fry a month or so ago and the grease just dripped off it and I was like 'why did I do this to myself?' Now I'll get Subway maybe once a week, and I get the Flatbread, so it's healthier then the regular bread. I still love sweets but most of the time I stick to the Weight Watcher products and I look at labels a lot more then I used to.

So has it worked for me? I'm down 41 pounds (at 189 right now) and in a size 12 or 14. I hit a weight loss plateau in February and went 2 months without losing much. I'd go up and down, and I was ready to give up, but with my mom by my side I pushed through it. I'm not taking off as much as I was in the beginning, but as you lose weight, you build muscle and it becomes harder to take off the weight. I exercise when I can (a lot of walking this summer) and I try to go to the gym when I can.

Some people don't know what it's like to have to lose weight. It's not easy. I have another 30 or 35 pounds to go but with my mom by my side, and me by my mom's side, we'll do it together, and i have every confidence that we'll keep it off and live healthier lifestyles!
