How to Make Your Own Weight Watchers Point List

  • Step 1 - LEARN THE BASIC WEIGHT LOSS SYSTEM FORMULA.

Weight watchers is a weight loss system based on a formula. The formula is roughly as follows:

    Calories/50 - (Fiber x 0.2) + (Fat x 0.08)

So a 500 calorie whatsit with 10 g of fiber and 5 g of fat looks like this:

    500/50 - (10 x .2)+ (5 x .08)

    Simplified:

    10 - 2 + .4 = 8.4 points. That 'whatsit' better be worth it.

  • Step 2 - MAKE A LIST OF YOUR FAVORITE FOODS FOR YOUR WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM.

You can create your own weight loss program this way. Take a piece of paper, or open an excel file. List all of your favorite foods in one column.

  • Step 3 - GET A PACKAGE FOR EACH FOOD AND BE YOUR OWN WEIGHT WATCHERS POINT CALCULATOR.

Run each food through the formula for a serving size and calculate the points. Write down the points in the column next to each food name.

  • Step 4 - CREATE YOUR OWN POINTS CARDS AND POINTS FOLIO.

You don't have to buy expensive weight loss programs to lose weight. Make your own material that works for you using cardstock and a cheap folder so that you can keep up with your points no matter where you are.

You just saved money while losing weight. Congratulations.

See the bonus step as well as the hints and tips below for more information.

  • Step 5 - BONUS: CHECK YOUR POINT RANGE FOR YOUR BODY SIZE.

Recommended point ranges are as follows:

    150 pounds: 18 to 23 points
    150 to 174lbs: 20 to 25 points
    175 to 199lbs: 22 to 27 points
    200 to 224lbs: 24 to 29 points
    225 to 249lbs: 26 to 31 points
    250 to 274lbs: 28 to 33 points
    275 to 299lbs: 29 to 34 points
    300 to 324lbs: 30 to 35 points
    325 to 349lbs: 31 to 36 points
    Over 350lbs: 32 to 37 points

  • The amazing thing about your response is that when I calculated the Smart Ones food against the formula listed, it was correct.  Hmmm....

  • actually you have the points of what you need daily TOTALLY off. I am a weight watchers leader. You have to take a quiz as what you need daily and it is based on WAY more than your current weight and eating too much will cause no weight loss and too little to slow your metabolism.

At any rate, you dont have to do all that work to find out the points of food, you can walk into any weight watchers meeting and buy a points calculator and food and anything else you want. It is part of our service. You don't have to be a member to buy products. A points calculator is ten bucks. You can walk in, not join, and buy one.

however, to get your points range you would want to join.

I don't say that to dispute your post, but many people won't be able to lose weight with the points ranges you listed and as someone who was once overweight myself and lost 30 pounds, I know that heartbreak.  For only about 9 bucks a week it's not too pricey to get the right information and do it so it works...but if that's still too much, it would be far better to count calories than to use the range you have and have the heartbreak of losing nothing.

At any rate...I wish you sooo much success on your journey to lose, regardless of how you do it! What works for one may be different than another...
